Eight reasons researchers
are exploring mango leaves.
From plant compounds to skin and hair, these are eight areas of emerging research. Explore what has been studied, the type of evidence, and what still needs to be established.
-
Rich in plant compounds
INGREDIENT COMPOSITIONMango leaves contain polyphenols and terpenoids, including mangiferin. These naturally occurring compounds are studied for their antioxidant activity.
Read the ingredient reviewIngredient composition does not establish a health outcome from a finished capsule.
-
Potential anti-inflammatory activity
ANIMAL RESEARCHA study in rats investigated mango leaf extract and mangiferin and reported changes in liver inflammation associated with a high-fat diet.
Read the animal studyAnimal findings do not establish anti-inflammatory benefits in people.
-
Fat metabolism & fat accumulation
CELL RESEARCHExperiments with cultured fat cells investigated mango leaf tea and mangiferin, including their effects on lipid accumulation and adiponectin.
Read the cell studyThis is early laboratory research, not evidence that Nataura causes weight loss or prevents fat gain.
-
Blood sugar & diabetes research
PRECLINICAL RESEARCHResearchers have investigated mango leaf extracts and mangiferin in carbohydrate-digesting enzyme experiments and animal models of diabetes.
Read the laboratory studyThese findings do not establish diabetes treatment or blood sugar control from Nataura capsules.
-
Early anticancer research
CELL & ANIMAL RESEARCHMangiferin has been investigated for effects on cancer-cell growth and cell-death pathways in laboratory and animal experiments.
Read the preclinical studyMango leaves and Nataura capsules are not established cancer treatments or cancer-prevention products.
-
Stomach protection & ulcer research
ANIMAL RESEARCHA mango leaf decoction reduced experimentally induced stomach lesions in rodent studies, prompting research into gastroprotective effects.
Read the animal studyThis does not demonstrate ulcer treatment or digestive benefits in people taking the capsules.
-
Skin health research
INGREDIENT & TOPICAL RESEARCHMango leaf extract has been studied in acne-prone skin research, including effects on sebum and the skin bacterium C. acnes.
Read the skin studyTopical and laboratory findings do not establish oral skin benefits or wrinkle reduction from Nataura.
-
Hair health & growth research
CELL & ANIMAL RESEARCHMango leaf water extract has been investigated in hair-follicle cells and mice for changes in pathways associated with hair growth.
Read the hair studyThe mouse work used topical application; benefits from oral capsules in people remain unestablished.
Where the human evidence fits: A 12-week trial with 97 completers reported improvements in some blood-lipid measures and an insulin-resistance index with 150 mg of isolated mangiferin daily. Blood glucose did not differ from placebo. The mangiferin came from Anemarrhena asphodeloides, not mango leaves; the trial does not demonstrate weight loss, diabetes treatment, or a benefit from Nataura’s finished product. INGREDIENT REVIEW · 2021
Plant compounds & antioxidant research
A review describes mango leaves’ phytochemical composition, including mangiferin, phenolic compounds, and flavonoids, and research into their biological activity.
This is ingredient-level background. It does not establish a clinical benefit from Nataura’s finished capsules.

SYSTEMATIC REVIEW · 2023
Metabolic & heart-health research
A systematic review examines mango, mango by-products, and mangiferin in cardiometabolic and other health research.
Studies involve different foods, ingredients, and doses. Findings cannot be assumed to apply to a 500 mg mango leaf capsule.

HUMAN TRIAL · 2020 · 70 ADULTS
Attention & memory: positive findings
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial tested a single 300 mg dose of a mango leaf extract standardized to more than 60% mangiferin. Researchers reported improvements in some attention and memory measures.
This was an acute trial of a specific extract. It does not show long-term effects or prove the same result for Nataura. The extract manufacturer funded the study.

-
HUMAN TRIAL · 2024 · 114 ADULTS
Cognition: a different result
Another randomized crossover trial tested a single 300 mg dose of mango leaf extract standardized to at least 60% mangiferin. It did not find an overall improvement in cognitive performance or mood.
The authors urged caution in interpreting the few observed effects. Human cognitive findings are mixed; benefits should not be presented as certain.

LABORATORY & ANIMAL RESEARCH · 2022
Early hair-growth research
Researchers investigated a mango leaf water extract in hair-follicle cells and a mouse model, observing changes related to hair-growth pathways.
The mouse experiment used topical application. This does not establish hair-growth benefits from oral mango leaf supplements in people.

FURTHER INGREDIENT RESEARCH
Skin & eye research
These publications examine mango leaf extract in acne-prone skin research and mangiferin in retinal-cell oxidative-damage research.
These research contexts do not establish an oral skin or vision benefit from Nataura’s capsules.

How to read the evidence: Human studies, laboratory studies, and research reviews answer different questions. Mango leaf extract, mango fruit, and isolated mangiferin are different materials. None of the linked publications is a clinical trial of the finished Nataura product; a larger extract weight alone does not show greater benefit.

What is mango
leaf extract?
Mango leaf extract is derived from the leaves of Mangifera indica, the mango plant. Its naturally occurring compounds include mangiferin, polyphenols, and flavonoids.
“Mangifera indica” names the plant. “Mangiferin” names one of its compounds. A capsule containing 500 mg of mango leaf extract does not necessarily contain 500 mg of mangiferin.
